Club Sandwiches Not Seals

Now is the time for me to blog about something I am most passionate about, stopping the largest slaughter of marine mammals on earth, the cruel and barbaric Canadian seal hunt.

At this time, each year, fishermen from Canada's East Coast kill seals with wooden clubs, hakapiks and guns. It is important to note that each killing method is demonstrably cruel. Because sealers shoot at seals from moving boats, the pups are often only wounded. The main sealskin processing plant in Canada deducts $2 from the price they pay for the skins for each bullet hole they find, therefore, sealers are loath to shoot seals more than once. As a result, wounded seals are often left to suffer in agony, many slip beneath the surface of the water where they die slowly and are never recovered.

The hunt began this past weekend, on Friday morning. By today, Monday, sealers had clubbed thousands of seals, with 275,000 expected to be brutally clubbed or shot for their fur over the next few weeks.

For four years, The Humane Society of the United States' ProtectSeals team has stood its ground as Canada's extraordinary harp seal nurseries are transformed each spring into bloody killing fields. Exposing the hunt is the surest way to stop it forever.

As another year's slaughter begins, visit the HSUS Protect Seals website, HERE, and help end this hunt once and for all.

The Vanity Of Going Green

I'm so excited, Madonna landed the cover of the May 2008 issue of Vanity Fair... the 3rd annual "Green Issue" (that last year featured Leonardo DiCaprio and everyone's favorite polar bear cub, Knut)!!!

The "Green Issue" of Vanity Fair helps increase the commitment to reporting on the threat to the environment, and the articles inside address global warming and other critical environmental issues.

Barack to the Future

Forgive me for not posting anything in the last few days. I took the weekend off to recover from my "Obama hangover," because I spent all day Friday celebrating Senator Obama and all that he stands for. And, after hours of waiting, I got to see him, in person, for the first time... A moment I will remember for the rest of my life.

The energy surrounding this man is unlike anything else going on in politics today. It's positive, it's inspired, it's hopeful. And, I am so proud to be a part it.

The Strangers

I watched the theatrical trailer for The Strangers four times in a row yesterday, and I think it looks great. It doesn't look like your traditional slasher movie, but original and inventive. Perhaps that's because it's inspired by true events. And, I'd be curious to know if it's even a slasher movie at all, and not just the story of a bunch of crazies, who have no real intention to kill anyone, just to terrorize them. I'll be excited to find out, May 30th.

Click HERE to watch the trailer.

Accessories Are Set To Upstage Your Outfit

According to most women, jeans and a t-shirt are our default items. So, how do we set ourselves apart? We accessorize.

I for one, would be happy to accessorize with any of these items:

I love this orange Miss Trish of Capri sandal. But how does being leather, and made in Italy, constitue $445.00?

I also love this patent leather sandal with the gold knocker and studs, again by Miss Trish of Capri, but not as expensive. $245.00. Still, when did sandals start costing so much?

Yes, they're still in style, and I really like this natural colored fedora with a thin brown strap, from Christy's Crown Series.

And, this Ettika bracelet puts a modern day twist on traditional rosary beads. But, I like it because of the gold hamsa... it's a Kabbalah thing.

Beautiful Britney

Some of Britney Spears' harshest critics, the ladies from The View, gave her guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother rave reviews yesterday.

"I have to tip my hat to that kid, cause she, she was really good. She was funny... It was wonderful," said Whoopi Goldberg. "And, I just wanted to say, for what it's worth Britney, I'm very proud of ya."

Elisabeth Hasselbeck said, "It was kind of like a flashback to where we got to know her, and fell in love with her."

"Lets hop it's a flash-forward," added Whoopi. "I got my fingers crossed for the kid, I like her."

He Caused A Scene

David Cook easily delivered the best performance on American Idol last night. He sang the Chris Cornell arrangement of "Billy Jean," and blew it out of the water! So, you better believe he got a lot of votes from me. He keeps getting better and better, and more original each and every week! He's now, officially, my second favorite contestant, David Archuleta still being my first.

If you're a fan of his, I would suggest purchasing his studio recording of "Eleanor Rigby" on itunes.

Breaking News!

It's not yet confirmed, but People.com is reporting that Jamie Lynn Spears is now engaged to her boyfriend of a few years, Casey Aldridge! This is exciting news for the soon-to-be mommy & daddy, and I wish them nothing but happiness!

Some Doors Should Never Be Opened

I just finished reading a brilliant children's book, written by Neil Gaiman, called Coraline. The story's about a little girl who, feeling neglected by her parents, decides to explore the grounds of her new home. Soon after, she steps through a door and into another world, much like her own, but weirdly different. From then on, Coraline is confronted with the strangest, most fantastical situations that make the story more gothic, and more adult then I ever expected.

This book is so strange and so thrilling, the only thing I can think to compare it to is Pan's Labyrinth. Really, it's a great read!

And, although the book was first published in 2003, it will soon get a boost in popularity thanks to the movie adaption due out in December. The movie is from the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and stars Dakota Fanning and Teri Hatcher. Click HERE to watch the teaser trailer!

The Reviews Are In

This time it looks like Britney Spears' comeback was a success! And, if anything, she proved that she can still be a Performer.

Enjoy this awesome review of Brit on How I Met Your Mother, by Tom Gliatto [People.com]:

The audience understood from the get-go that Britney Spears’s cameo role on Monday night’s How I Met Your Mother was more about damage control than acting.

Her challenge was clear: Demonstrate that, even though she seems in recent months to have been traveling through life on the roaring, ragged edge of a tornado, she could still stop and stand still long enough to perform on camera, be as naturally charming as the role permitted, and let the audience conclude: “Well, she SEEMS all right. She seems like Britney.”

And she did all that in the space of a few mild comic moments. At least she balanced out that weird MTV awards appearance last fall where she looked like a Bond girl who’d come out of a coma.

Her part on the CBS sitcom wasn’t as cartoonishly flamboyant as her 2006 appearance on Will & Grace, as Amber-Louise, the Southern conservative co-host of a gay talk show. This time she played Abby, a humdrum receptionist in the office of a dermatologist.

In fact, the very first shot of the half-hour was of Britney at her receptionist’s desk, staring off like some girl in a Vermeer painting, or perhaps more precisely like Scarlett Johansson in a movie about Vermeer.

Frankly, I would have made the entire half-hour an ingenious stunt: Everything was happening IN THE HEAD of this sad, dreamy girl. But that was not the plot: Ted (Josh Radnor), undergoing a series of laser treatments to remove a tattoo, had a crush on the dermatologist doing the zapping (Scrubs’s Sarah Chalke), but the doctor kept resisting his efforts at flirtation.

The receptionist, meanwhile, developed a crush on Ted.

The script didn’t make much of this potential triangle. Britney mostly smiled with a sort of likable, hopeful pathos (except for one brief moment, when she handed the doctor a file with a bluntness that seemed inexplicably hostile).

Well, what’s wrong with likable, hopeful pathos? Plenty of celebrities would kill for even that.

But her best scene came at the very end: Abby, letting herself be seduced by the ridiculously rakish Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), unexpectedly and enthusiastically upped the ante. It was a sort of fantasy validation: This loser secretary, who tried to find herself reading self-help books, was transformed into a fun girl with thoughts only of uncomplicatedly naughty good times.

As she bolted from the office with Harris, it was as if Britney were rushing out to meet her former self.

American Idol Rewind

It's been about a month since David Archuleta sang "Imagine" on American Idol, and I just can't stop thinking about it. He's 17-years-old, sings with almost no effort at all and his voice is flawless. He's adorable, and he's brilliant. So, enjoy the flashback:

And, vote for David tonight on American Idol, 8pm!

Monday's TV Lineup

All of a sudden, my Monday night's are full of Prime time Television! Luckily, I have free time and a DVR.

Of course, How I Met Your Mother is the show that everybody's talking about, due to a guest appearance by Britney Spears. It should easily be the most watched show of the night, and airs on CBS at 8:30pm.

Update: Thanks to cbs.com, you can now watch the full-length episode, Ten Sessions [With Britney Spears], HERE! It's so cute! Plus, Britney is getting overwhelmingly good reviews for her role!

Other shows I'll be watching include, The Pussycat Dolls/Girlicious on The CW at 9pm, my favorite family reality show, Jon & Kate Plus 8 on TLC at 9pm, and The Bachelor: London Calling on ABC at 10pm.

And, that's not all. The Hills returns to MTV at 10pm! I know I'm not the only one who has been going through LC withdrawal, and I can't wait to see what she and Whitney did in Paris!

Britney Helps The Enviornment

On Monday night, right after How I Met Your Mother airs on CBS, several articles of clothing from Britney Spears' wardrobe [on the show] will be auctioned off to benefit the Natural Resources Defense Council. Their mission is to safeguard the Earth; its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends.

The NRDC, known as "the earth's best defense," is a favorite charity of Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Gore, and myself. If you'd like to become a member, click HERE.

LC Goes To Fashion Week

As promised, here's the scoop on Lauren Conrad's first runway show. Lauren, a part-time student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, made her designer debut at Mercedes-Benz L.A. Fashion Week.

In the audience were her The Hills co-stars Audrina Patridge, Whitney Port, Lo Bosworth, Brody Jenner, and Frankie Delgado, and fellow Laguna Beach stars Dieter Schmitz, Stephen Colletti, and even "frenemy" Kristin Cavallari.

The show featured 30 different looks from her fall 2008 line, and if you ask me, it looks like her trip to Paris truly paid off. Her chic black and white dresses were accented with Chanel-esque leather gloves and berets.

The Other Spears Sister

Jamie Lynn Spears was a guest star on last night's episode of Miss Guided, on ABC. She played a student who got good news from a college, but contemplated tossing it all aside if it affected her romantic life. Sound familiar? I thought she was really cute on the show, and it was quite funny.

And, in more Jamie Lynn news, her good friend Miley Cyrus recently told the Daily Mail, “When I first heard she was pregnant, I started crying. I was heartbroken to tell you the truth because she's my friend and I didn't want her life to change. But now she's actually getting really excited and even though it's a difficult situation, I'm happy for her now because she's happy that she made the choices she did."

Legendary

There are only 4 more days until the Britney Spears episode of How I Met Your Mother, and an extended version of the commercial advertisement came yesterday. Britney looks so cute, and I'm confident that she'll do a great job playing Abby the receptionist. I love how we're finally getting to see glimpses of "the old Britney" that we all know and adore!

Update: You can now watch two clips of the episode! Aww, Britney is too cute! Click HERE, and enojy!

"Promises, Promises"

I'm absolutely freaking out! The Burt Bacharach and Hal David musical, Promises, Promises, may be getting a Broadway revival. Director/choreographer Rob Ashford, who is currently working on a Broadway revival of Brigadoon and who just finished choreographing Cry-Baby, is staging a workshop at the end of the month.

Now, why am I so excited? Because MY Sean Hayes is going to play the lead role!!! So this show better make it to Broadway, because seeing Sean on the Great White Way would be a dream-come-true for me! Also, Anne Hathaway will be playing the female lead.

Spring Into Fashion

Today is the first official day of spring! Isn't that exciting? And, besides going to see Spring Awakening on Broadway, I can't think of a better way to celebrate than by updating ones wardrobe!

How lovely are the above Jerome Dreyfus Tote's? The bags, made in Paris, come in great colors: black, brown, and green.

Another spring must-have are these Matt Bernson Gladiator Sandals! They are so my style, and once again, the colors are: black, brown, and green. I think we're starting to see a trend.

Don't put away your scarves just yet! Stars like Jessica Alba have been wearing these Tolani scarves everywhere from New York to LA.

And, sticking with the bright color theme are these Danielle Stevens necklaces adorned with both pearls and beads.

Babies On The Block

Did anyone else wake up and go straight to PEOPLE.com to see the 7 AM unveiling of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's twins, Max and Emme? The magazine, on newsstands Friday, features 12 pages of photos of the new family, and of what I've seen so far, they're beautiful! I only wish Marc was on the cover as well, I mean, he's an international icon too.

Apparently, Jennifer gained somewhere between 45-50 lbs. for the pregnancy, and, as of now, she's not at all interested in losing the weight. And, although the new parents have hired a nanny, they are very hands on, and couldn't be happier. I hear that they couldn't take their eyes off of their babies while conducting the interview at their home in Long Island.

I wonder if Halle Berry will go the way of PEOPLE magazine to introduce her new baby girl, Nahla, or will she choose Vanity Fair à la TomKat?

It's About Time!

Details magazine has crowned Ryan Seacrest one of its 2008 Mavericks! And, all I have to say is that it's about damn time! Not only is Ryan the hardest working man in show-business, but he is smokin' hot!

Lindsay, You're Out. Christian, You're In!

I was disappointed to hear that Lindsay Lohan will (as of now) no longer be filming an episode of Ugly Betty. However, that doesn't mean that the show can't still be fierce-ified. According to PEOPLE magazine, Project Runway winner Christian Soriano may have a guest spot on the show, where he will officially retire the phrase “hot tranny mess.”

March 17, 2008

Really!?

Yay! I can now embed Saturday Night Live clips onto my blog! So, check out Seth & Amy blasting Gov. Spitzer, and SNL alumni Tracy Morgan announce that, "Black is the new President, bitch!" from the March 15th show:

And, be sure to pick up the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly before it expires this Friday. I havent read it yet, but It features an 8-page spread about SNL.

Britney's Comeback Pt. 2

How cute is the new cover of TV GUIDE?!

Finally, things are really going well for Britney Spears! She's been visiting with her sons, her new music video premiered last week, and now she's making her return to the small screen. As I'm sure everyone already knows, Britney will have a quest spot on the March 24th episode of How I Met Your Mother. And cast members of the show have had nothing but nice things to say about her:

"She was hilarious in the table-read, and I got to see her do the run-through as well, and she was great," said Jason Segal. "She was great and lovely and couldn't be sweeter."

Alyson Hannigan said, "I was just surprised how funny she is. She just nailed her jokes, and she's really playing a character. And it's so sweet, and so endearing, and I just, I love her."

And, my favorite How I Met Your Mother star, Neil Patrick Harris, said, "She is good. When we did the run through, she seemed a little nervous and wore big sunglasses the whole time. I think that's a bit of a security blanket. But she seems very professional."

Here are some of the first pictures from the episode:

And click HERE to watch the first commercial!

That's not all. Apparently, Britney's dinner with Mel Gibson over the weekend wasn't her first. PEOPLE magazine is reporting that the pair and their families have met a number of times in the last month.

A source says, "Mel and his wife Robin clearly saw a woman in crisis and wanted to extend themselves in any way possible."

"There's just a handful of people in the world who understand the kind of intense attention that Britney goes through, and how to raise a family with some semblance of privacy and how to keep one's family intact and out of the limelight," the source adds.

"There are no expectations, there is no agenda. It's simply an act of human kindness – one neighbor reaching out to the other."

WOW, all of this positive news is really overwhelming! Now, if only Britney wasn't just ordered to pay upwards of $375,000 dollars in legal fees to Kevin's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan. That's a bummer.

We Only Got Four Minutes To Save The World

Madonna & Justin Timberlake's highly anticipated duet (that I heard a rough cut of months ago) has been released!!! You can buy it for $0.99 on Amazon HERE.

I can wait to get her new album on April 29th!!!

The Boys Are Back In Town

The men who wrote the Tony-winning score for the Broadway smash-hit Spring Awakening, Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, were honored with an induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in late February. And, I'm only just finding the tribute videos on Broadway.com now. Click HERE to watch SA OBC member John Gallagher Jr. sing "All That's Known."

I love him.

Broadway.com is also featuring a video of In The Heights opening night footage. And, they managed to catch up with the cutest Broadway star to ever set foot on the planet, Mr. Anthony Rapp.

And, while I'm on the subject of Broadway, did everyone hear the rumor that Kevin Federline may be joining the cast of Legally Blonde? I could definitely see that show doing some "stunt casting." I bet K-Fed would play the dancing Jamaican frat boy. Do you know who I'm talking about? And, I think he'd do a good job, because he's a great dancer. Plus, it would be nice if he made some of his own money to support himself.

A Swayze Update

Patrick Swayze's brother, Don, says that Patrick's doing "amazingly well." And during one chemo treatment, Don says Patrick told doctors, "You just wait! I'm going to be the guy that five years from now we're all going to be talking about this day." He's incredibly optimistic, and so am I!

LA Fashion Week

It looks like this years Los Angeles Mercedes Benz fashion week, in Culver City, CA, may have been one of the best ever. It featured shows from Lauren Conrad, Nicky Hilton, and Ashley Paige. But the most exciting, in my opinion, looked like it was Robin Antin's Pussycat Dolls show. Robin, a choreographer and the creator of the PCD, is a first time designer. She says she's been working very hard on this line of lingerie, and it looks like she's done a good job. And, the Pussycat Dolls themselves (minus Carmit Bachar, who recently left the group) performed at the show!

And this next model should look a tad bit familiar. It's George Clooney's girlfriend, Sarah Larson, walking in the Ashley Paige show.

And, yes, I'll have some pictures from LC's show up for you soon!
