Marley & Me: A Review

I just saw Marley & Me, and, although I enjoyed it, it wasn't nearly as good as the book.

Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston made a charming couple. And the dogs that played Marley were very adorable and very talented. But moviegoers won't get to know Marley as well as those of us who've read his story. And, that's a shame; something I think that could have been improved by a few more voice-over narrations and a few extra scenes.

Actually, nearly all of my favorite parts in the book were left out of the script. Parts that I feel were the pivotal moments in Marley's life and in his relationship with the Grogan's. But I suppose that's because they couldn't have been conveyed by a dog actor (Which, again, is why I think there should have been more voice-over narrations; to explain the emotions of the situation at hand).

So, by all means, see the movie. You'll like it. But, if you're a dog lover or, better yet, a dog owner, than read the book. Please, please read the book! You'll cherish it.

Marley and Me is money to a great extent because Jennifer Aniston is money; Owen Wilson is... not so much
