You Can't Stop The Beat
A sequel to the movie version of Hairspray is in the works, with a projected release date of summer 2010, according to Variety. New Line Cinema has made a deal with Hairspray creator John Waters to write a treatment, and the Tony-winning team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are reportedly on board to write new songs for the sequel.
On a separate note, but still musical related, three of my favorite Broadway stars, Cheyenne Jackson, Anthony Rapp, and Johnny Gallagher, attended "Broadway Stands Up for Freedom" on Monday night, a concert that benefits the Youth Programs of the NYCLU. And, speaking of "little miss Woods, L," here are some photos of Bailey Hanks meeting the press outside of the Palace Theatre.
I hope her opening night was a hit!
