Why some people actually preferred the format of Sunday night's 2008 Golden Globe Awards is beyond me... One of the most exciting shows of the year was just, blase'. The half-hour ceremony was weird, the presenters (minus Giuliana Rancic) were weird, and the winners were weird.
Atonement won for Best Picture. Cate Blanchett won Best Supporting Actress, and Daniel Day-Lewis Best Actor. No surprises there. But what about Juno star Ellen Page being beaten by, erm, Marion Cotillard for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy? I doubt anyone saw that coming! At least Johnny Depp won for the first time after 8 nominations. And Jeremy Piven, who is usually snubbed by the Globes, won his first.
... But why not give one to Angelina Jolie? She was incredible as Mariane Pearl. Oh well, bring on the SAG awards!
